A focus on the Wellbeing team

Slough Council for Voluntary Service (Slough CVS) is working together with Slough Borough Council and local groups to coordinate an army of volunteers to help people in the borough through the One Slough initiative.

The Slough CVS Wellbeing and Social Prescribing team has been providing amazing support for Slough residents, working extended hours, and looking after distressed callers during this crisis. Residents are accessing not just reassuring, friendly support but much needed food, medicines and longer-term contact for the most vulnerable.

The Wellbeing and Social Prescribing team have supported the development of a call centre with Slough Borough Council, providing training to others to be able to provide this essential service. The One Slough community response team are currently building capacity and resilience as we work to protect more people at this time. They have, to date, supported over 613 residents who have requested one off or multiple support services via the Slough CVS COVID19 website and the call centre, including 277 residents with a severe chronic health condition; 101 carers or cared for; 251 requiring prescription pickup; 126 requesting a daily welfare calls; 116 on the NHS shielded list and 370 residents who are isolated.

We have received many positive comments from residents who have benefited from the kindness and caring shown by the Wellbeing and Social Prescribing team. Here are just a few:

“Hi there, I am so happy with your team. I am not in the area unfortunately and my dad and nan have current conditions which means they are vulnerable and can’t get out to do their shopping. Your team replied to me very quickly and are truly amazing for what they do. My dad has bowel Cancer and Diabetes, is partially blind and is disabled, so he doesn’t go out much and my nan is vulnerable as she’s 74 years old and doesn’t have anyone to run to the shop for her. When I messaged your team to ask if they could help they were amazing and made contact straight away. My dad and nan were very happy, as it was a lovely thing to see so many people care about the community. Thank you all for the wonderful things you’re doing. Stay safe all.”

“I am writing to inform you that your employee Michelle has been a gem, helping and supporting me during my isolation as I have had symptoms of Coronavirus. She has been a great help in these stressful times. I am unable to put into words her truly supporting nature.”

“You and your support team are a ray of sunshine! My daughter is now feeling uneasy about going to the supermarket and so a couple of days before our groceries run out I will get in touch with the team. Thank you for being so supportive in this difficult time. I can’t express how much we appreciate it! Take care and stay safe.”

“Thank you for being there for me when everyone else has let me down. I only contacted you this morning and you arranged to deliver my shopping and medicine. God bless you all for helping me, I can’t thank you enough. I am so grateful to you wonderful people I am praying for the safety of all your volunteers. Bless you, all.”

Cath Hoskins, Head of Operations, Slough CVS said, “The Wellbeing and Social Prescribing team have been outstanding, linking the most vulnerable to the right support that the community groups and volunteers are providing. It’s been lovely for the team to get this feedback and it is very much deserved, showing them and the wider community how important social prescribing is in our communities.”
