In Slough, Windsor, and Maidenhead, local groups, charities and statutory groups play a crucial role in supporting voluntary communities. However, many of their representatives lack the confidence and skills needed to effectively deliver training sessions. Recognising this challenge, the “Train the Trainer” course was introduced to bridge this gap, by equipping individuals with essential training techniques, giving them renewed confidence and empowering them to make a greater impact in their communities.
Our 12 trainees, who came from a broad spectrum of backgrounds, completed an intensive 6-week course, with participants putting into practice what they had learnt throughout.
The professional roles of many of our trainees means that residents will see the value through improved training being offered directly via the SBC Children’s Centre; Slough Youth Justice, Shared Lives, Get Berkshire Active and Windsor Pride, as well as trainees’ personal plans for the future use of this training. By the end of the programme, all trainees had developed newfound confidence and practical skills to lead training sessions within their communities.

Lisa Cunningham, Freelance Consultant at L D Cunningham Consulting, celebrated their achievements, stating, “What a wonderful way to start 2026, with a fabulous group of 12 trainees completing our Train the Trainer course. It’s been such a privilege to start with a group of strangers and finish with a team of amazing trainers. Thanks to the brilliant partnership between Slough CVS and Adult Learning for making this possible!”
Salwa Boon, the Curriculum Manager at Adult Learning Slough, Windsor, and Maidenhead, said, “The overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants throughout the course, highlighted the impact of this initiative. This partnership not only achieved its intended goal but also established a foundation for many more meaningful collaborations in the future.”
