The African Caribbean Heritage Society, in collaboration with Slough CVS, hosted a powerful and insightful ADHD Awareness & Insight Session — a day dedicated entirely to understanding. Understanding ADHD, understanding lived experiences, and understanding how we as a community can better support one another.
The session brought together professionals, parents, carers, and community members for open conversation, shared learning, and practical guidance.
Community Support & Expert Contributions
The event was enriched by contributions from several dedicated professionals:
- Rosanne (Slough CVS – Community Engagements) Provided vital support and helped frame the importance of community-led awareness and accessible pathways to help.
- Sandy Wilson – Inclusion Specialist Insight Shared expert knowledge on inclusion, highlighting the barriers many families face and the steps needed to create more supportive environments.
- Nadia Boujjettef – Advice & Information Manager Offered a valuable SEND teacher perspective, helping attendees understand how ADHD presents in educational settings and how schools can work more effectively with families.
Workshops & Lived Experience
Workshops were facilitated by Jean Gibson, author and qualified ADHD life coach, whose professional expertise and lived experience created a safe, relatable, and empowering space. Jean guided participants through practical strategies, emotional insights, and real-life scenarios that resonated deeply with the audience.
A Day of Connection and Clarity
The session emphasised that ADHD is not just a diagnosis — it is a lived journey that affects individuals, families, and communities. Attendees left with:
- A clearer understanding of ADHD across ages
- Greater awareness of the challenges faced by African and Caribbean families
- Practical tools for support
- Stronger connections with local organisations and each other
This event marked an important step in strengthening community awareness and ensuring that every individual with ADHD feels seen, understood, and supported.
