More than 120 Students Take Part in Slough Youth Action’s Knife Crime Awareness Workshops

On Monday 6th July 2026, Slough Youth Action delivered its Knife Crime Awareness workshops to more than 120 Year 10 students at Slough and Eton School, running two sessions across the day. Now in its second consecutive year, the event once again drew excellent feedback from students and teachers alike for its engaging, interactive, and impactful approach.

Dr Hussain Mahmood, Lead for Health Awareness at Slough Youth Action, opened each session by welcoming students and outlining the day’s aims and objectives. Imam Bilal Asif, Chaplain at Oxford University Hospitals and Birmingham Newman University, then set the scene with a powerful reflection on the dangers of knife crime, the importance of making positive choices, and the value of protecting human life.

Students were split into small groups and rotated through a series of interactive workshops. Dr Hussain Mahmood led CPR training, equipping students with essential life-saving skills, while Dr Kat Morris, Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant at Wexham Park Hospital, delivered practical bleed control training, teaching students how to respond to a life-threatening stabbing before emergency services arrive.

PC Imran Akhtar and PC Kasjan Baumgart, from Thames Valley Police, Slough, shared their experiences from frontline policing, outlining the legal consequences of carrying knives and presenting local and national statistics to illustrate the devastating impact of knife crime on individuals, families, and communities.

Imam Bilal Asif also led an interactive workshop drawing on powerful real-life stories from his work as a hospital and prison chaplain. Speaking from the experiences of both victims and offenders, he helped students understand the profound, lifelong consequences of violence and the importance of choosing a different path.

Students also took part in a conflict resolution workshop, learning practical techniques to de-escalate conflict, improve communication, and make safer decisions through interactive activities and realistic scenarios.

Through education, meaningful discussion, and practical skills training, Slough Youth Action continues to empower young people to make informed, positive choices and play an active role in building safer communities.
