A #OneSlough volunteer, Ramdane Haddadi, who was initially unsure of getting a vaccine himself has since become triple-vaccinated at the Salt Hill Activity Centre in Bath Road, Slough, in January. Ramdane had been a “High-Viz hero” volunteer at the vaccination centre since 2021. He said: “I don’t have to worry about my health when I’m mixing with other people, and I have the freedom to travel and do other things.” Ramdane, who lives in Slough with his twin brother Karim, is originally from Algeria and likes to visit his family back in the capital Algiers at least once a year. He comes from a family of six siblings, four of which still live in the North African country alongside his parents. And he’d spent a month there in September last year after getting double vaccinated. But originally, he’d had concerns about the Covid-19 vaccine, having been astonished by how quickly it was developed. He was partly persuaded by Karim, a security guard at Wexham Park Hospital, who he felt he had a responsibility towards, and colleagues at Salt Hill who explained in more detail how the vaccines came about. As with all vaccines, companies such as Moderna and Pfizer had to meet strict international standards for safety and effectiveness before any of their Covid-19 jabs were distributed. Using already trusted and pioneered techniques in the laboratory, coupled with sizable international funding and extra resources from the very start, including human testing, they were able to develop the vaccines more quickly than usual. Salt Hill Park Vaccination Centre is open all week. If you have any concerns about having the vaccine, please come and speak to your GP or come along to the centre.
