MaDE Week at Wexham Park Hospital

This week, 16-20 October, was MaDE week at Wexham Park Hospital, where the Community Connectors, led by Front Door Manager Kinder Bassi, our Community Champions Planner, Rosanne Naicker and our volunteers, have been supporting the NHS at the hospital reception. The team have provided bilingual volunteers throughout the week, to talk to patients and carers about access to additional support, such as foodbanks, befriending services, digital support, local activities and to let them know about the Wellbeing for Slough community directory. The team have signposted patients and visitors to appropriate services and have also provided information on the importance of vaccines, available from the GP and local pharmacies.During the week, we were also joined by representatives from Age Concern, Berkshire Vision, The Slough Hub, Living in Harmony, our Cadent Energy Saving and Wellbeing Coordinator and champions for Diabetes and Oral Health and Lipids.Kinder Bassi, Front Door Manager said: “What a week! Thank you so much to everyone who made MaDE Week a success, from the staff at the NHS, to our voluntary sector partners and volunteers and all the organisations that donated incredible care packs. We were especially delighted to be joined by Dolly Bhaskaran, from Living in Harmony and our Diabetes Champion, who gave out important and useful advice on how to manage weight and alternatives for diabetic patients, and by Shahid Qazi, our Cadent Energy Saving and Wellbeing Coordinator, who provided valuable information and advice on energy saving, the importance of carbon monoxide alarms and how to get onto the priory lists for gas checks for your property. Your input and support was invaluable.”We would like to thank Clean Conscience, The Baby Bank, Colnbrook Cares, Puja Bedi and Khalsa School Scouts Group, for the donations of care packs, for our patients being discharged home. It certainly brought more than a little cheer to the discharge lounge!
