Celebrating the Heart of Our Community: Carers Honoured at Special Carers Week Event in Slough

The theme for Carers Week 2025 is ‘Caring About Equality’, calling for an equal society where carers are truly valued, recognised and supported. Carers Week provides a vital opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges facing carers and to connect more carers to available support.

On 10th June, Slough Carers Support, sponsored by Pinewood Hotel, hosted a vibrant and heartfelt celebration for local Carers in Slough, attended by over 150 carers, alongside representatives, volunteers, and partners from the local community.

10 local organisations were on hand to provide advice and information to carers on debt issues, benefit entitlements, carers assessments, Health and Wellbeing, NHS support, Adult Social Care, and local carers support groups.

The day was officially opened by Jane Senior, Director of Commissioning at Slough Borough Council, who warmly welcomed attendees and set the tone for a day of gratitude and celebration. Guest speaker Alex Lapointe from Ways into Work followed with an inspiring address on equal opportunities in employment for unpaid carers.

An important part of the event is giving Carers the opportunity to spend time relaxing with each other in beautiful surroundings, with wonderful refreshments and entertainment. Carers were treated to a delicious buffet lunch and a spectacular programme of entertainment, including captivating performances from Creative Academy, Amina Khayam Dance Academy, Nikita Dance Academy, the ever-energetic Dhol Show and lively bhangra dancing on the lawn with Apna Virsa.

Reflecting on the event, Jane Senior said:

“Brilliant event to mark Carers Week. Thank you to everyone who came along and also to Pinewood Hotel for hosting the event. It was great to be able to show our appreciation of carers and the valuable contribution which they make.”

Ramandeep Gogna, Carers Support & Development Officer at Slough Borough Council, added:

“We would like to thank local community businesses, partners and volunteers who contributed and helped to make this event memorable for the unpaid carers of Slough. We are particularly grateful to all our wonderful Carers Groups representatives who made the day run so smoothly.”
