#OneSlough celebrated 40 years of Volunteers Week with a Volunteer Fair

#OneSlough celebrated 40 years of Volunteers Week with a Volunteer Fair, to inspire more people to make a difference in the community.

The Volunteer Fair took place at the Atrium at The Queensmere Observatory Shopping Centre in Slough, on Saturday 8 June. Representatives from over 30 charities and community groups covering health and wellbeing, children and young people and information services, spoke to over 250 residents from all walks of life, about their volunteering opportunities. The Mayor of Slough, Councillor Balwinder S Dhillon thanked volunteers and the voluntary sector for all their efforts.

A massive thank you to all the charities and groups that attended – ABC to read, Art classes group, Berkshire Scouts, Citizens Advice East Berkshire, Cruse Bereavement Support South, GoodGym Slough, Knit Your Socks Off, Living In Harmony, Pakistan Welfare Association Slough, REMAP,  Sakoon Through Cancer,  Slough Anti-Litter Society, Slough Libraries, Slough Refugee Support, South Central Ambulance Charity, Street Guardians, Thames Hospice, The Baby Bank, Together As One – Aik Saath, Ways into Work, Swipe Music, Slough Borough Council, Sai Seva UK and YES Slough – your contribution played a significant role in making the event a success, and we are grateful for your support and enthusiasm.

A highlight of the day was a fun Silent Disco Walking Tour of Slough, with a community twist, led by SCVS Chairman and SWIPE lead, Jamie Green. Participants enjoyed dancing around the streets of Slough and finding out where they can volunteer. The tour took in sights across the town centre, including Church Street which houses many charities, Herschel Park and The Curve – Slough.
