Slough Older People’s Steering Group and Slough 50plus Forum Present: Question Time!

Older residents in Slough were given the chance to put their questions directly to an expert panel at Question Time, held on Wednesday at Kingsway United Reformed Church.

The event, chaired by Rob Deeks, Chief Executive of Together As One, brought together a panel of local leaders and service providers: Will Tuckley, Chief Executive of Slough Borough Council (SBC); Cllr Dexter Smith, Leader of the Council; Mike Wooldridge from Frimley Health and Care ICS; David Coleman-Groom, Executive Director of Adult Services at SBC; Dr. Sarah Rayfield Public Health Consultant; and Asma Aziz, CEO of Slough CVS.

Reflecting on the discussions, Asma Aziz, CEO of Slough CVS, said:
“It was a great opportunity for our senior residents, sparking valuable conversations about the challenges they face. As a key supporter of Slough’s voluntary and community sector, Slough CVS is committed to working with partners to address pressing issues such as housing, benefits, and access to advice.

“To further support our community, we are offering free space to voluntary organisations that provide face-to-face advice for vulnerable residents, particularly those who may be digitally excluded or face language barriers. If your organisation can make a difference, we’d love to hear from you – let’s work together to create positive change.”

Mayor of Slough, Siobhan Dauti, praised the initiative, saying:
“It was a very informative session, and the feedback from residents was taken on board by those present. Thank you to the over-50s for sharing your views on everything from libraries to the bus station.”

Meanwhile, Rob Deeks, CEO of Together As One, reflected on the importance of the event:
“I was honoured to have been asked to play a part in this important conversation. I hope it marks another step towards improving the way older people are valued, supported, and included in our town and in the services that shape their daily lives.”

Marcia Wright, Chair Slough 50plus Forum added: “Thank you to everyone who attended this event, sharing your concerns with the panel members and helping to improve everyday life in Slough for all ages.”
