Following the attack in Southport, Merseyside on Monday 29 July, riots and violent disturbances have been taking place across the UK over the last week. Slough CVS utterly condemn the violent disorder, rooted in racism and xenophobia.
Thames Valley Police has issued a statement re-assuring local residents that “should any planned protests or spontaneous incidents escalate into violent disorder seen elsewhere in the country, we are prepared and officers will swiftly and robustly respond and deal with those choosing to cause harm to our communities.” Read the full statement here
Social media advice (taken from NAVCA members’ briefing)
- If someone sees or receives threatening or racist messages on their social media channels, or anything signalling a threat to their safety, they should take a screen shot and report it directly to the police.
- When circulating communications outside your organisation, be clear what status the information has, such as verifying its source or finding corroborating information, including whether it can be posted on social media or not.
