Hurricane FC Hosts First Family Wellness Event in Slough, in Partnership with Cardo and Local Organisations

Only 13 months old, Hurricane FC, a local grassroots football club, recently held its first Family Health and Wellness Event, aimed at promoting the overall wellbeing of the community. The event was a collaborative effort, organised in partnership with Cardo and supported by several local voluntary sector organisations, including Slough CVS, Good Gym Slough, Health and Wellbeing Slough, and The Slough Hub.

The event offered local families the opportunity to participate in a range of health-focused activities. Attendees were able to receive health checks and sign up for local health and wellness initiatives. A highlight of the event was a presentation by nutritionist Bradley Wren, who spoke to both families and young footballers about the importance of nutrition and making informed dietary choices.

Violet, a mother who attended the event with her children, shared her positive experience: “The kids had so much fun, and I got many tips and insights on my health and how to take better care and keep track of it.”

The primary goal of the event was to foster a sense of community while supporting the health and wellness of all families who attended. Hurricane FC is deeply committed to the holistic development of young people, which includes not only their physical fitness but also their mental health and overall well-being. Hosting events like this is central to the club’s mission of connecting young players with the broader community and supporting families on their wellness journeys.

Although the original plan to hold family football drills and a match was disrupted by heavy rain, the event successfully moved indoors to the 3rd Upton Scouts Hut. Here, families received health checks while children enjoyed traditional games such as hoopla. Cardo generously provided sports equipment, activities and prizes for young people, and refreshments, ensuring that the event remained engaging and fun for all attendees.

Organiser Sairah, Social Value Manager at Cardo said:

“We are thrilled to have partnered with Hurricane FC and local organisations for this event, bringing the community together to focus on health and wellness. It’s inspiring to see families taking active steps towards a healthier lifestyle, and we’re proud to support such an initiative that promotes wellbeing in Slough.”
