A major step forward for arts and culture in Slough is set to take place on Wednesday, March 26th, at Moxy, with the official launch of the Slough Cultural Strategy. Developed by the Slough Arts Forum (SAF)—a collective of over 50 arts organisations—this strategy marks a significant milestone in positioning Slough as a nationally recognised hub for culture, creativity, and artistic excellence.
Funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and managed by Together As One, the development of the strategy has been a collaborative effort involving artists, cultural organisations, and key stakeholders, including Slough Borough Council.
Slough Arts Forum: Driving the Town’s Cultural Future
The Slough Arts Forum played a crucial role in instigating and shaping this strategy. As a network of local artists, cultural practitioners, and creative organisations, SAF has long advocated for a unified approach to developing Slough’s cultural sector.
Dominique Unsworth, Co-Chair of the Slough Arts Forum, said:
“For too long, Slough’s incredible creative talent has remained under-recognised. The launch of this Cultural Strategy is a powerful step toward establishing a sustainable, thriving cultural ecosystem that benefits both artists and the wider community. We are proud that the Slough Arts Forum has been at the forefront of this movement, ensuring that creativity is embedded in the town’s identity.”
A Vision for a Thriving Cultural Landscape
The Slough Cultural Strategy outlines a five-point plan to establish Slough as a vibrant, diverse, and innovative cultural hub. The key objectives include:
- Expanding community access to arts and culture.
- Strengthening leadership and advocacy for the creative sector.
- Building partnerships and securing investment in Slough’s cultural economy.
- Supporting talent development and career progression in the arts.
- Preserving and enhancing Slough’s cultural spaces and assets.
Emma Turner, Relationship Manager at Arts Council England, praised the collaborative efforts behind the strategy: “The Slough Cultural Strategy is a great example of how a community-driven approach can support long-term cultural development. Arts Council England is pleased to support this initiative, which will not only benefit Slough’s artists and creative organisations but also provide richer cultural experiences for its diverse communities.”A Celebration of Slough’s Creative Community”
