On Wednesday 8th October 2025, Slough CVS hosted Breathe Easy Slough at Chalvey Community Centre—a vibrant and collaborative event aimed at tackling smoking, vaping, and shisha use across the borough. Timed to coincide with Stoptober, the initiative brought together public health professionals, community leaders, and residents to explore innovative, community-led approaches to tobacco control.
The day began with informal networking over refreshments, setting the stage for a series of insightful presentations. Highlights included contributions from the South East Smokefree Alliance and Slough Public Health, who shared compelling local data on smoking prevalence and its disproportionate impact on vulnerable groups.
Attendees actively participated in engaging activities such as a myth-busting quiz, a case study presentation, and World Café-style roundtable discussions. These sessions encouraged open dialogue on key issues including youth vaping, barriers to quitting, and the strengths within Slough’s communities.
James Parker, Head of Resources and Projects at Slough CVS said:
“Breathe Easy Slough was a brilliant example of what can be achieved when we unite around a shared goal. The energy, ideas, and lived experiences shared on the day will help shape a stronger, more inclusive tobacco control strategy for Slough. We’re proud to be part of the journey toward a smokefree future—and we invite everyone to get involved.”
The event underscored Slough’s commitment to becoming a smokefree borough by 2030. The Slough Tobacco Control Network outlined recent achievements and invited attendees to help shape its future direction. Feedback gathered during the event will inform a new action plan designed to reduce tobacco-related harm and health inequalities.
