This week celebrates Inter Faith Week – a powerful reminder of the importance of embracing our differences and exploring how faith shapes our values and identities.
Following th EDI conference last week, on Tuesday I had the privilege of being a part of the NHS BHFT Anti-Racism Forum.
This forum shone a light on the impact of race, faith, culture, and experience on our lives, celebrating the resilience and belonging that define us. We delved into the nuances of racial discrimination and racism, and the importance of black hair culture and wellbeing through initiatives like TRIYBE and Worldgroove drumming (an amazing experience) and celebrating the contributions of our Windrush generation.
But what really stuck with me was keynote speaker Hári Sewell’s message: “Let’s seek to connect, not just correct others.” It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of empathy and understanding.
The event launched an incredible artwork of Joseph Silvanos Wafula, whose painting beautifully captured the idea that “building bridges is a movement that turns struggles into light and unites our communities.”
Huge thanks to hosts Karla Inniss and Alex Gild for bringing everyone together and for their commitment to developing the anti-racism framework and forum.
