Celebrating the Windrush Generation – A Day of Unity, Heritage, and Community Wellness

On Saturday, Slough came alive in celebration of the Windrush Generation Slough 2025, a vibrant celebration organised by the AfroCaribbean Heritage Society (Thames Valley), in partnership with Healthier Slough, Slough Borough Council, Slough CVS, Solutions4Health, and local sponsors. This event was a tribute to the legacy, resilience, and contributions of the Windrush Generation, and served as a powerful example of community collaboration and engagement.

Attendees were treated to a full afternoon of enriching experiences, from informative health talks by medical and professional experts, to cultural storytelling from the Caribbean community, as well as free health checks, dancing, music, and refreshments — with plenty of cake!

Musical talent took centre stage, with thanks going to King Clivus, who performed in celebration of Windrush on behalf of the AfroCaribbean Heritage Society. Thanks also go to Jay Virdee, whose vibrant DJ set kept everyone on their feet, and to Sully The Director, who captured the spirit of the event through stunning photography and videography.

Joycelyn John, speaking on behalf of the AfroCaribbean Heritage Society, highlighted the importance of collaboration in reaching and supporting often overlooked and marginalised members of the community. “This event,” she said, “demonstrated excellence in partnership and community cohesiveness across Slough.”

Healthier Slough echoed the sentiment, “What an amazing day we had on Saturday celebrating the Windrush Generation! The day was filled with vibrant music, DJ sets, dancing, delicious food, and powerful speeches that truly touched our hearts. We were also proud to offer free health checks and share more about our work with Healthier Slough.”
