More than 25 participants from local voluntary sector organisations attended Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) training delivered by Barbara Jacobson, Adult Safeguarding Lead, Helen Hadaway, Children’s Lead and Maryam Mahmood, Safeguarding Partnership Lead for Quality Assurance & Communication at the Slough Safeguarding Partnership.
Representatives from organisations including The Afro Caribbean Heritage Society Thames Valley, Cippenham Carers, Viva Slough, The Baby Bank, Community Calm and Slough Refugee Support, took part in the session.
The training provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of both children’s and adult safeguarding, safeguarding legislation, and the expectations of the Charity Commission. Attendees also explored the role and responsibilities of a Designated Safeguarding Lead, alongside the support available to help them carry out the role effectively within their organisations.
The session highlighted the importance of building a strong safeguarding culture across communities and voluntary organisations, encouraging curiosity, constructive challenge and professional judgement among staff and volunteers. Participants also received practical guidance on recognising concerns and responding appropriately when a child or adult may need help or protection.
