Slough Council for Voluntary Service (SCVS) is delighted to announce the launch of a new platform designed to easily connect volunteers with local charities, groups, businesses and public sector organisations. This aims to simplify the volunteering process, making it more accessible and convenient for residents in Slough.
Residents can specify their interests, skills, experience and availability and this information is then used to match volunteers with a diverse range of local volunteering opportunities.
“We are thrilled to introduce this platform, which we believe will change the way residents are able to get involved with a wide range of organisations, to actively engage in volunteering” said Vicki Atherton, Operations Director, SCVS. “Volunteering should be a fulfilling experience, which has so many benefits for individuals, and our new platform is designed to make it accessible for everyone in Slough. “
Among the groups currently on the platform are Thames Hospice, ABC to Read and Berkshire Vision. Groups can add their opportunities onto the platform easily too. The advantages include improved visibility, efficient recruitment, and a more streamlined and adaptable approach to volunteer management.
Tagreed Ismail, Volunteer Manager, SCVS said, “We are looking for people from all walks of life in Slough, as this, brings a rich diversity of skills and experience. We have training available and there are so many reasons why people volunteer, perhaps its for the social aspect of meeting new people, learning new skills, building confidence or sharing knowledge. We are always looking for people with community languages. Volunteering improves your health and wellbeing and gets you involved in a cause that you are passionate about.”
This innovative initiative aims to inspire more residents to actively contribute to their own wellbeing, as well as others in Slough. Roles are varied and can include charity shop volunteers, telephone befriending, drivers, supporting children with their reading, as well as assisting with one-off or regular events, administration and digital tasks.
