On Wednesday we held our annual Slough Community End of Year celebration. It was fantastic to have so many voluntary sector and partner organisations there. Thank you to all our volunteers. There are so many incredible things to celebrate and be proud of in Slough.

On Wednesday 13 December, Slough Council for Voluntary Service (SCVS) hosted its much-anticipated annual End of Year celebration, bringing together over 40 standholders, statutory partners, and volunteers. The event took place at Weekes Drive Community Centre and attendees were warmly welcomed by Vicki Atherton, SCVS’ Director of Operations.

Cllr Amjad Abbasi, the Mayor of Slough, extended a warm welcome to all participants expressing his gratitude for the remarkable contributions made by the voluntary sector to enhance the well-being of residents and communities in the local area. He then visited each of the stands to speak about their work.

A new volunteering matching service, Simply Connects, was introduced by Tagreed Ismail where groups can promote local volunteering opportunities.

Langhams Estate Agents in Slough High Street donated chocolate boxes to be distributed by Santa as tokens of appreciation to the voluntary sector stands and volunteers. This thoughtful contribution highlighted the positive impact these individuals and organisations have had on the local community.

The celebration continued with entertainment provided by singer, Siobhan White, adding a festive touch to the event. Attendees enjoyed a buffet lunch, followed by presentations to Slough CVS volunteers and Volunteer Passport recipients. A Slough Quality Protects certificate was also awarded to the Golden Eagles Football Club for achieving their Bronze level.

The day concluded with the cutting of a celebratory cake to mark Slough CVS’s 90th birthday.
