Slough Community Transport (SCT) has been essential during COVID-19 providing a prescription pick up service and much needed shopping to the most vulnerable residents who are unable to leave their homes. In January 2021, SCT delivered 926 prescriptions, while extending their service to take people to the vaccination centres too. The joined up One Slough approach has been used here, enabling GP’s to book appointments to the centre as well as request transport for patients who require it.
Jacques Cartier said, “I’m visually impaired and most of the time housebound. Slough Community Transport was so convenient for me, thanks to Slough CVS and my GP at the Farnham Road Practice for arranging this, it’s an excellent service. I would give 10/10 for making me feel so safe and comfortable throughout my journey to get the most important vaccine in the world right now to safe my life! Thank you.”
George Howard, CEO, SCT, said, “A huge thank you should be expressed to both the team of volunteers and to the drivers who have made it possible to meet every request for help that we have received. We have received many positive compliments about our volunteers being polite and reassuring. Going to the vaccination centre is a huge thing for many people, for some, who have been shielding, this is the first time they have been out of the house since March 2020.”
