On the 22 January, the Slough Poverty Forum was hosted at Slough CVS’s 29 Church Street and led by Becs Curley from Slough Borough Council. Becs welcomed attendees from Slough CVS, SBC, the NHS, Turning Point, Slough Foodbank, Thames Valley Police, Giving Hope and East Berkshire Community Learning Service.
Becs Curley Said: “We had a great session and thrashed out a few ideas on how we can work together better this year and, in-turn, support the residents we work with in a stronger and more empowered way.”

Useful updates from the forum included:
- Warm Spaces Slough – Scottish and Southern Electric Network (SSEN), have again offered to sponsor Warm Spaces Slough this year. If you would like supplies to run a Warm Space, please contact Mark at office@communitycafe.uk and add or update details of the Warm Space to the Slough Community Directory.
- Turning Point – Slough Community Hub (CHUB) – offers a drop-in, one stop service to support with many aspects of your life, to aid your recovery from addiction. - Rough sleeping and homeless support – If you are concerned about someone contact Adrian and the team at Roughsleeping@slough.gov.uk or visit StreetLink – Connecting people sleeping rough to local services
- Family Information Service – Slough Information Services and Guide website has been refreshed and is good for any groups looking to signpost – Slough Information and Services Guide
- Community learning – Salwa Boon is looking to bring more community learning classes closer to the community. If you could host a course or run one from your venue for your network and others, please contact Salwa.Boon@slough.gov.uk
- Wellbeing at Home – The Slough CVS Cadent project, Wellbeing at Home, has a team of over 50 multi-bilingual volunteers who can work with residents to help them understand how to lower fuel costs and understand the dangers and safety around carbon monoxide.
