Vaccine for Walkers at Slough Together Walk

The #OneSlough Slough Vaccine team joined the Slough Together Walk on Saturday to encourage the walkers to get first, second, booster and, if eligible, a fourth Covid 19 jab. The Community Wellbeing Champions (CWC) have been visiting sites across the town to offer the vaccinations to communities who have a lower take up than the general population.

Walking with his family was the MP for Slough, Tan Dhesi and his family, who, after the 5km walk with his wife and two sons, the elder being vaccinated in the bus after the walk, said,

“It is important that teenagers and children get vaccinated as soon as possible because the vaccination against Covid 19 is our best weapon to overcome this pandemic and we’ve seen that in the level of fatalities and hospitalisations have decreased because of the vaccination programme.”

I have received my vaccines, so have my sons and it is incredibly important that we realise the importance of it and do not get duped by those who are spreading misinformation.”

“My message to the good people of Slough and further beyond would be to please please get vaccinated, that’s the best way to not only save yourself but also save your loved ones and it is the one way to get back to normality as we know it. We have only managed to open up our country, our economy, our town because of the level of vaccination that people have received in our country and it is incredibly important that moving on we carry on with this. We need to get far beyond the misinformation, Covid affects all communities regardless of background, of colour, creed or gender so we need to ensure that we all get vaccinated and that is what my request would be to the community”.

Slough CVS Chairman Jamie Green supported the comments of the local MP and added, “If the whole of the family is vaccinated, the whole of the family is protected. If you’ve only got the senior members of the family vaccinated the youngest members can be spreading it and vice versa. We really need to get whole families vaccinated. In some families there may be one member of the family who can’t have the vaccine so the rest of that family need to get the vaccine to protect that member of the family”.

If you see the Vaccine Bus and CWC team around Slough you don’t have to request it to stop just request it to give you your a vaccine. Remember you have a choice whether or not to turn down the vaccine but you do not have the choice whether or not to turn down the disease. Long Covid has not gone away.

Carla Gregory who had her booster before taking on the 5 kilometre walk said “It is important to get your children vaccinated so they don’t get Coronavirus and get really ill and spread it around and pass it onto somebody else which might cause them serious harm”.

Her partner Paul Lear added “I work in a school and have contact with lots of people every day and the last thing I want to do is pass it on to them and cause them serious injury or possibly death”.

Keep an eye on the #OneSlough website https://oneslough.org.uk/ to find out where the team will be next or visit to Salt Hill Vaccination Centre to get a vaccine, every day from 8am-7.30pm.
