International Women’s Day event

Slough Borough Council marked International Women’s Day (IWD) with an afternoon and evening full of activities and fun for the community of Slough. The event was organised by The Community & Detached Youth Work Team (SBC) and took place at Salt Hill Activity Centre, on Friday 8 March, with the centre being a hive of activities including arts and crafts, stalls, bowling, VR and much, much more.

Over 1,100 people attended the event from all backgrounds. Activities were free for the community to enjoy, including face painting, henna, bowling, soft play and trampolining. In the arts and crafts room there was an exhibition of the work that young people have made during sessions with the Community & Detached Youth Work Team in the run up to IWD.

Local women from the statutory, business and community organisations gave inspirational talks about their role and their journey getting there (the highs and lows). The aim was to encourage, inspire, and empower women in Slough to aim high and believe that they can.

20 young girls aged between 9-15 years old volunteered at the event (they all attend CDT run projects.

“A great event, lots of interesting people all coming together to inspire inclusion – such an important day to celebrate women and future generations”.

“Great vibe, very well organised and some very worthy exhibitors and causes. Loved the inspirational speeches”.
