The primary goal of Slough Community Transport is to enable all those who live in the community, to access all of the local amenities.
In the last quarter alone, 985 trips were provided on accessible transport, to enable Slough residents to access GP and hospital appointments, to attend day care and exercise classes and to meet up socially with family and friends.
Steph Simonetti from Slough Community Transport said: “We know our services are vital to our members, and others, as we are often their only means of being able to get out and about. Our service continues to enable users to exercise control over their own lives. As well as the sense of independence that this provides to these people, they also use the opportunity to maintain social contacts, with many booking a three hour return for a supermarket trip, to enable time for using the onsite café and meeting up with friends.”
Case Study
Four older people all book their transport to one location at the same time every Tuesday and enjoy spending that time together, both on transport and having lunch together. They tell us that they are in touch with each other by telephone on other days during the week to offer support and companionship to each other.
