Knit Your Socks Off, a Slough based knitting and crochet group, held their annual Macmillan Coffee Morning on Saturday 5 October 2024, at the group’s monthly in person meet up. Co Founders Sbba Siddique and Samina Hussain, who are both cancer survivors, were joined by over 30 people, who all came together to enjoy the amazing treats on offer. As well as homemade cakes and biscuits, there were samosas, pakoras and mithai.
The business community also got involved. Thank you to the Home Made Cake Company for donating cakes and Bindika Sian from Photobooth Fairy, for providing a complimentary photobooth.
It was a wonderful morning full of laughter and joy, shared over wonderful food, with £400 being raised.
Co Founder of Knit Your Socks Off, Sbba Siddique said: “Cancer affects each and everyone of us, the statistics are scary – 1 in 2 people will receive a cancer diagnosis so if it’s not you, it will be someone you love. Samina and I have both navigated cancer and had support from Macmillan and this is our way of giving back. We have members of the group who have also been impacted by cancer and who have found our meets ups to be a safe space to talk, so for us it was vital that we help in the effort to raise funds so the amazing support Macmillan provides can continue for those that will sadly inevitably follow.”
Slough Modest Sisters said: “We had a fantastic time at the ‘Knit Your Socks Off’ Macmillan Coffee Morning! It was so lovely catching up with familiar faces and meeting some new ones. Macmillan played such a vital role in supporting Sbba and Samina during their cancer journeys, and they were both determined to give back. Through this coffee morning, they’ve helped raise much-needed funds to support others facing similar battles.”
