Slough Refugee Support, with funding from Slough Borough Council, successfully hosted a vibrant community event on 8th April 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, celebrating both Women’s International Day and Eid Al Fitr.
Designed to empower women—particularly those with limited access to local resources—the event offered a welcoming space for connection, shared experiences, and access to vital services. It served as a platform for building community bonds and increasing awareness of support available in Slough.
Held at the Salt Hill Park Soft Play Centre, the celebration catered to families by providing a child-friendly setting. While children enjoyed the play facilities, around 150 women, including asylum seekers in temporary accommodation, local refugees, and other community members, engaged in the day’s activities.
A number of local organisations and charities were present to offer information and support, including midwives from the NHS Team (Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust/Wexham Park Hospital), The Light UK in Slough, Slough Anti-Litter Society, Slough CVS, and Animation Expressions from Museums Partnership Reading.
The event underscored the vital role women play in the community and the importance of recognising and supporting their contributions.
