An energetic start to Black History Month with the Afro-Caribbean Heritage Society

As part of the Black History Month celebrations, the Afro-Caribbean Heritage Society organised an exciting football tournament at Braywick, bringing together Kenyan teams from across the country. On a cold and wet day and despite a last-minute venue change, the event attracted over 250 attendees and saw the participation of community leaders from the Afro-Caribbean Heritage Society, local residents, and representatives from Thames Valley Police.

The tournament not only highlighted the sport but also fostered community cohesion. Attendees, including local families, friends, and supporters, cheered as teams competed.

This football tournament demonstrated how sports can be a powerful tool in uniting people, breaking down barriers, and building stronger, more inclusive communities.

The Afro-Caribbean Heritage Society’s efforts to build community cohesion continues this week with a visit to a Neighbourhood Policing Team event held at Maidenhead Police Station. A group of leaders from local faith groups and the community were invited. The aim was to start a new group to share ideas, strengthen community bonds and to listen to what residents need from Thames Valley Police and it is hoped that this platform for sharing ideas and initiatives will continue.

“Together we stand in Unity.”
