Slough Borough Council’s Community Detached Youth Work Team (CDYWT) has been working with and supporting many communities in Slough. Using football as a vehicle, the team engages communities and young people, breaking down barriers, increasing participation, decreasing anti-social behaviour, and signposting to opportunities and pathways.

With these aims and objectives in mind, the CDYWT has been working with young people from the Roma community, and they have supported young people from Slough Refugee Support (SRS) on a weekly basis for nearly 6 months in their growth and development.

Through this partnership, U13 Roma FC and SRS played an inaugural football match on Wednesday, 26th February, at Eton College Sports Facilities. The game saw some fantastic football, with SRS winning the contest 2-1. It was a close game with SRS clearing off the line in injury time to come out on top.

The CDYWT hopes this is the first of many matches and is already planning future matches, programmes, growth and development through football. Thank you to everyone who took part or supported!
