Community Calm Walk Officially Launches in Slough with Mayor’s Support

A new wellbeing initiative encouraging residents to connect with nature and each other, was officially launched during a Community Calm Walk at Upton Court Park. The gentle morning walk brought together local residents for a relaxed stroll through the park, aimed at supporting mental wellbeing, encouraging physical activity, and creating opportunities for community connection.

The launch was attended by Samina Hussain and Mayor of Slough Cllr Siobhan Dauti, who joined participants for the walk and shared reflections on returning to a place that held personal meaning from her childhood. She described the event as a positive example of a volunteer-led initiative that encourages like-minded people to get out into nature, to improve health, mental wellbeing, and offers a chance for friendships and connections to be made. The Mayor also highlighted how fortunate Slough is to have so many excellent groups like this, offering so much for free for our residents.

Organised by Community Calm, founded by Meena Kalisi, the walk marked the beginning of what organisers hope will become a regular opportunity for adults across the town to step away from daily pressures and reconnect with nature.

Meena Kalisi said: With thanks to our community and players of the National lottery we have launched a new walk and talk to add to our green social prescribing. We are very lucky to have such a beautiful community in Slough working to improve the lives of eachother. Together we are growing stronger.”
