Last weekend, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) Heritage Hub hosted a powerful and unifying Anti-Knife Crime, Gangs, and Drug Dealing Awareness event, drawing together law enforcement, local leaders, youth advocates, and grassroots organisations in a collective stand against rising violence in local communities.

Organised in collaboration with Thames Valley Police, the Afro-Caribbean Heritage Society, Communities Against Violence (CAV), and other community groups, the event highlighted the urgent need for proactive strategies to combat knife crime, gang involvement, and drug-related offenses. The MP for Maidenhead, Joshua Reynolds, attended and contributed to the dialogue, stressing the importance of education, early intervention, and stronger community engagement to stem the tide of youth violence.

A notable highlight was the participation of Slough Youth Parliament (SYP) representatives, Gunveen and Lakson, who delivered impassioned speeches under the campaign banner “Carrying a Knife Will Ruin Your Life.” Their address echoed the SYP’s 2024–2026 manifesto, advocating for greater youth representation, inclusive safe spaces, and preventive education.

“Knife crime is not just a youth issue, it’s a community issue,” Gunveen said. “And we, the youth, are not the problem. We are part of the solution.” Lakson added, “When you give us a voice, you give us a choice—to lead, to grow, and to help others make better decisions.”

Joycelyn John, Co-Founder of the Afro-Caribbean Heritage Society, emphasised the importance of such collaborations: “By supporting initiatives like this, we aim to foster collaboration between law enforcement and local communities, ensuring a comprehensive approach to crime prevention and social development.”

The event featured speeches, testimonials from those affected by violent crime, and interactive sessions designed to raise awareness, inspire change, and reinforce the message that everyone has a role to play in making communities safer. With strong participation from both seasoned leaders and passionate young voices, the gathering served as a call to action and a reminder of the power of collective responsibility.
