This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and earlier this year, Slough CVS proudly partnered with Jamia Masjid Islamic Centre, to deliver accredited Mental Health First Aid training to 11 newly appointed Community Champions. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to equipping local volunteers with the skills and knowledge they need, to support mental health within the community.
The champions completed the Mental Health First Aid course, designed to build confidence in having supportive conversations and recognising signs of mental distress. This training enables them to provide initial support and signpost individuals to appropriate professional services.
In addition to the course, the Community Champions, alongside other trusted community members, participated in a Suicide and Bereavement workshop.
Rosanne Naicker, Community Engagement Officer at Slough CVS said: “It is hoped these sessions will promote a deeper understanding of the challenges many face and prepared the participants to offer informed, compassionate support during times of crisis.
“Through this collaboration and continued training, we aim to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and make mental health support more accessible across Slough. Together with our dedicated volunteers, we are building a more resilient, caring, and connected community.”
