Congratulations to Jamie Green, Chairman of Slough CVS and Chief Executive of Slough West Indian People’s Enterprise (SWIPE), who won the award for “Distinguished Leadership in Community Service” at the Global Brilliance Awards on Saturday 10th October at the House of Lords.
Jamie is a former world kickboxing champion who turned his energy toward community leadership, and has made a lasting impact across Slough. Jamie founded the Slough Police Cadets, the first cadet unit in the Thames Valley, developed the Jubilee Riverside Centre to make watersports accessible to everyone, and partnered with IDUK to host the Ganesh Immersion Festival, celebrating cultural unity and ensuring the safety of participants. During the pandemic, Jamie led vital community response work through SWIPE and Slough CVS, and created the #OneSlough partnership model — now recognised nationally for bringing people and organisations together, in the spirit of collaboration and resilience.
Commenting on the award, Jamie said: “It’s great to be recognised for this award, but you can’t have an award related to work in the community without great communites to work with, like those in Slough. One of the focus’s of the award was the work done in partnership with IDUK, around holding the Ganesh Festival at the Jubilee Riverside Centre – Slough is currently the only place holding an event of this scale for Ganesh Immersions, with over 2,600 people attending again this year.”
