#OneSlough Volunteer Fair and Big Lunch Bring Community Together

Community spirit was on full display on Wednesday, during the Month of Community, as residents, charities, voluntary organisations and local leaders came together for the #OneSlough Volunteer Fair and Big Lunch, a celebration of volunteering, community action and neighbourhood connections.

The event featured 35 volunteer and community organisation stands, giving visitors the opportunity to learn about a wide range of volunteering opportunities across Slough. From supporting young people and vulnerable residents to environmental projects, health initiatives and community events, organisations showcased the many ways local people can get involved and make a difference.

Alongside the volunteer fair, attendees enjoyed The Big Lunch, the UK’s annual celebration of community connections, bringing people together to share food, conversation and ideas. The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere encouraged residents to meet new people, connect with local groups and learn more about the support and opportunities available within the borough.

A highlight of the day was the attendance of the Mayor of Slough, Cllr Rifaqat Zarait, who visited exhibitors, spoke with volunteers and residents, and recognised the invaluable contribution made by the voluntary and community sector.

The Mayor praised the dedication of volunteers and community organisations that work throughout the year to support local people and strengthen neighbourhoods across Slough.

The event provided an opportunity for local organisations to engage directly with residents, recruit new volunteers and raise awareness of the services and activities they offer. Visitors were able to explore a diverse range of causes and discover how their skills, experience and interests could be used to support the community.

Organised by Slough CVS, the Volunteer Fair and Big Lunch demonstrated the strength, diversity and collaborative spirit of Slough’s voluntary sector.

Many visitors left with information about potential volunteering roles and plans to become involved with local organisations in the coming weeks.
