On Tuesday 18th March, Slough Youth Action organised and hosted a Knife Crime Awareness day at Slough and Langley College. 250 students, over 2 sessions, were educated on the dangers of knife crime.

5 stations were meticulously designed for high-impact, with each station aimed to equip students with the essential skills and insight to navigate themselves away from knife crime. Students were divided into 5 groups, each group rotated around the 5 stations until every group visited every station in a carousel-style format.

Umar Ansari (TVMC) welcomed the students with an emotional account, as a father who lost his son to knife crime. Real-life perspectives through the narrative of the victim’s friends and family were given by Imam Bilal Asif in Station 1.

During Station 2, the Problem Solving team from Thames Valley Police, Slough, led by PC Imran Akhtar, delivered critical information on knife crime and knife possession laws, procedures and community safety.

Slough Youth Action, led by Mohamed Acheghaf and Hamza Ola, engaged students to plan a social media campaign on knife crime awareness in Station 3.

Finally, Station 4 and 5, led by Slough Youth Action’s very own Dr Hussain Mahmood, brought together 9 doctors and nurses from the Medicine and Emergency Department at Wexham Park Hospital to deliver Basic Life Support and Bleed Kit training, together with Trauma Med Solutions.

We have received excellent feedback from the students, college and our guests who included Slough Borough Council, FA, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Services and TVP Aylesbury. Thank you to Safer Langley for the support received and TVMC for funds provided to purchase bleed kits (from Trauma Med Solutions).
