Somali Week Independence Days Celebration 2026

On Friday, 3 July 2026Dhaxalreeb Foundation proudly hosted its Somali Week Independence Days Celebration 2026 at Cippenham Community Centre, Slough, bringing together over 150 members of the Somali community and the wider public to celebrate Somalia’s historic Independence Days of 26 June, 27 June and 1 July.

The event promoted community cohesion, cultural understanding and partnership, providing an opportunity for people from different backgrounds to come together and celebrate the rich diversity of Slough.

We were honoured to welcome Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi MP, Member of Parliament for Slough, as our Guest of Honour. We were also delighted to welcome Qudsia Rahim representing Slough CVSJoycelyn from the Afro-Caribbean Heritage Society, councillors, community leaders, traditional elders, academics and representatives from Somali National Television.

The event was officially opened by Abdinasir Ahmed Dirie, Treasurer and Finance & Projects Secretary of Dhaxalreeb Foundation, who welcomed guests and highlighted the significance of Somalia’s Independence Days, the importance of community cohesion, and the value of partnership working across Slough.

Following the MP’s address, Mohamed Hussein Olow, Chairperson of Dhaxalreeb Foundation, spoke about the Foundation’s mission, why it was established, the services it provides to local communities, and its vision and future plans to expand its work both locally and internationally.

The evening featured inspiring speeches from community leaders, networking, cultural performances and traditional Somali hospitality, creating an atmosphere of unity, friendship and celebration.

We would like to thank Slough CVS for its continued support and partnership. We look forward to working together on future community projects, including health and wellbeing initiatives that will benefit local residents.
