Teamwork and Tidy Streets: Community Clean-Up at St Mary’s

A big thank you to the six dedicated volunteers from GoodGym and Slough Anti-Litter Society who rolled up their sleeves for a successful litter pick around St Mary’s Church on Church Street this week.

As well as collecting a large amount of litter, the team took proactive steps to tackle ongoing waste issues by emptying two overflowing public bins into council-designated dustbins. They also lined the bins with heavy-duty bags to make future collections easier and more efficient—a small action with the potential for lasting impact.

The team were joined by local resident Martin and his lovely lurcher, Gladys. Martin filled an entire bag himself and was curious about the “gym” in GoodGym. After hearing about the organisation’s mission, he offered his full support. The word also went out via the Slough Anti-Litter WhatsApp group in the morning and we hope to work together with them more in the future.

The team at St Mary’s Church thanked the volunteers: “Wonderful to have GoodGym Slough and Slough Anti-Litter Society helping us to keep this space clean and tidy for our community in Slough. Thank you to all for your support and giving of your time so generously!”

Perhaps the most meaningful part of the evening was connecting with three individuals preparing to bed down in the churchyard. Their heartfelt thanks reminded us that clean, cared-for spaces can have a real and immediate impact on people’s lives.
