In many communities, including Slough, an increasing number of children face challenges with reading, which affects their confidence, academic achievement, and future opportunities. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds are particularly affected, often starting primary school behind their peers, and the pandemic has further exacerbated these inequalities. Our mission is to help every child develop the skills and confidence to read, giving them the foundation for a brighter future. We proudly support over 100 schools across Berkshire, with a strong presence in Slough. Our team includes 160 trained and dedicated, DBS-checked volunteers who work with 2-3 children each week, conducting sessions twice a week during term time. In Slough, our efforts are expanding, aiming to reach even more schools and children in need. Our work helps to reduce educational inequalities, fostering positive outcomes for children, schools, and the wider community.
