Nearly 80 Adult ESOL learners at Slough & Langley College took part in an engaging session about volunteering, exploring how it can help build skills, confidence and connections within the community.

The session led by Orooj Haque Volunteer & Community Development Officer at Slough CVS, introduced learners to the concept of volunteering, highlighting the many benefits it can bring, including gaining valuable work experience, developing new skills and taking positive steps towards employment. Attendees also learned how to get involved through Slough CVS, including using the Simply Connect platform to find local volunteering opportunities.

The presentation was supported by Georgia, a Slough CVS volunteer who recently began helping in an administrative role. Georgia shared her personal volunteering journey, spoke about what motivated her to get involved and answered questions from the audience, offering first-hand insight into how volunteering can make a real difference.

The session welcomed learners from a wide range of backgrounds, many of whom expressed enthusiasm about volunteering as a way to build confidence, gain experience and become more connected to their local community.

Events like this, and the Slough Jobs Fair, which Slough CVS attended this week, highlight the important role volunteering can play in supporting people on their journey towards employment, while strengthening community participation and inclusion.
