Wade in the Water: Social Action Fair

On Saturday 28 October St Paul’s Church in Slough held a ‘Wade in the Water’ event to mark Black History Month. The event included a rousing concert by award-winning gospel choir The Spirituals. The aim of the concert was to remember the amazing strength and courage that ordinary black people have shown when fighting for what is right, often at great risk and cost to themselves and to inspire the younger generation to do the same – to fight for social justice and make the world a better place.

The second part of the event aimed to make the audience aware of local organisations that strive to bring about change and to encourage them to get involved. #OneSlough were invited to attend the fair and raise awareness of the diverse range of volunteering opportunities available in Slough. Other community groups present included Christian Aid, Nextdoor Nature, Scouting Slough, Slough Anti-Litter Society, The London & Slough Run, Slough Refugee Support and Slough Music Service.

The event was a fantastic opportunity to meet and engage with attendees and inform them of the many ways they could support their local community through volunteering. The event also provided a platform to network with other like minded organisations and meet with community group leaders.
